Green Jade OE – Neocaridina davidi

Green Jade OE shrimp are a refined Neocaridina davidi variety combining a soft, light jade-green body coloration with the rare Orange Eye (OE) genetic trait. Where our Dark Green Jade OE line is selected for depth and intensity, this line is deliberately bred a step lighter — a brighter, fresher jade tone that stands out beautifully against dark substrates, wood, and shaded aquascapes.

Green Neocaridina lines are appreciated for their organic, natural appearance, and the lighter jade expression gives planted tanks a subtle luminous accent without the visual weight of darker varieties. The OE trait adds an additional level of exclusivity, as the orange eye pigmentation differs from the standard dark eyes typically seen in Neocaridina shrimp.

Appearance

  • Soft light-green to bright jade body coloration, selectively bred to sit a shade lighter than our Dark Green Jade OE line
  • The defining feature is the orange eye pigmentation, which contrasts gently against the pale green body
  • Females typically grow slightly larger and often develop smoother, more even colour coverage as they mature
  • Colour depth and consistency can vary depending on genetics, diet, and aquarium stability
  • Well-established colonies produce more consistent offspring over time when kept in stable conditions

OE Trait Explained

OE (Orange Eye) shrimp are selectively bred to express orange eye pigmentation instead of the more common dark eye colour seen in standard Neocaridina varieties.

  • This genetic trait is considered uncommon and is sought after by shrimp keepers maintaining specialised colonies
  • When OE shrimp are bred together, offspring are more likely to express the orange eye trait, although some natural variation may occur depending on the strength of the genetic line
  • Maintaining a dedicated OE colony helps preserve both colour and eye trait consistency across generations

Behaviour and Natural Grazing

Green Jade OE shrimp are active grazers that continuously search for natural food sources throughout the aquarium, including:

  • Biofilm
  • Micro algae
  • Organic particles
  • Decaying plant material

Providing moss, botanicals, wood, and textured surfaces supports natural grazing behaviour and contributes to colony stability. Their peaceful temperament makes them suitable for shrimp-focused aquariums and calm community environments.
