What is Flame Moss?
Flame Moss (Taxiphyllum sp. 'Flame') is a striking aquatic moss prized for its unique, upward-twisting growth pattern that resembles flickering flames. Unlike most mosses that spread horizontally, Flame Moss grows vertically in tight, spiral-like curls—creating dramatic visual interest and natural texture in planted aquariums and aquascapes.
Important: This moss comes directly from our shrimp tanks, so some pest snails may hitch a ride. We clean each portion as thoroughly as possible before shipping.
Appearance & Characteristics
Growth Pattern: Distinctive vertical growth in tight, spiral-like curls that create a flame-like appearance—unlike the horizontal spread of most aquatic mosses.
Height: Typically reaches 5–10 cm (2–4 inches) tall when fully established.
Color: Rich, deep green when healthy and properly maintained.
Texture: Soft, delicate, and finely branched with a structurally tighter form than other common mosses.
